It’s fun how people ask me the same question- I want to start a blog, how do I go about it?
My guy- write!
A blog is just that: a blog.
For whatever reason you want to blog, you must write to be called a blogger.
Let’s get the basics first. If you want to blog to make money, forget it unless you’re selling services or products. Just write and have a good portfolio which can attract individual sponsors who can board. Remember, you don’t just wake up being a Haruki Murakami or a Petina Gappah of blogging- it takes time to hone those skills. You must be passionate about writing. For beginners, you don’t have to be perfect to blog. Forget about perfect grammar. Just write and express yourself. Imagine the American YouTuber known as IShowSpeed. I just watched him hitting 50m subscrubbers today. What a feat! IShowSpeed started low; he started his channel when he was 11 years old in 2016. He has been consistent in his ‘game’ and 10 years down the line, his ‘game’ has paid off. So being consistent is part of the basics, together with discipline. Reading Leads to Writing
I started this blog out of boredom. I wrote random thoughts. Looking back, I see this blog as the fallback script for my memoirs. Simply put, this blog is the foundation of something big which might be on the way. I always know the basics, and it is my duty to share them with you so you can start your blog at a better level than mine.
Avoid being defamatory.
The legal consequences will financially damage you, and your reputation will be beyond redemption.
Maintain confidentiality.
Know the legal implications of breaching confidential information. For example, as a public official, I am legally bound to observe the confidentiality clauses in my contract of employment.
Don’t mention people’s names without their consent, unless it’s a case that’s already been published in the public domain, such as in the media or the courts of law and sued for defamation for something you could have avoided.
Remember!
Just write!
