View across the street: Musings from the office.

Hebert Chitepo Street, Bulawayo

It’s been over three years since I’ve been stationed here. Quite a lot happened. The COVID-19 virus ran rampant, and most of us had to get vaccinated. One thing I couldn’t stand was the noise and chaos across the street during the day. Talk of habituation.

I have since left that office. It has been 1.5 years. So much happenned. This pair of eyes, complemented by a pair of spectacles, saw a lot. The usual cat-and-mouse game between the commuter omnibus drivers and the police over illegally picking up and dropping off passengers at undesignated points. That long stretch og human bodies stretching round to 11th street as they orderly queue for passport application around the gate on 10th street.

The worst that I saw was the body of a passenger by a bus which had a brake failure as it was parking. That loss of life was not necessary.

I have since left that office, but I still cherish the memories I had.

Bulawayo and its people. Pick and Pay (TM) Hyper Market. So many friendships were forged there.

I miss this. The view from my office window.
